World Snooker Championship
Ding, Brecel, Selby, Carter and Williams have already gone home.

if Ronnie doesn't win it this year then I fancy either Ray Reardon or Graham Miles.

Does anyone still watch snooker?

It's the most boring spectator 'sport' possible. Watching paint dry is more interesting.

It’s a good sport to have on in the background as you don’t miss anything…..

Re: World Snooker Championship
As kids we used to bunk off school to watch the masters at the Wembley conference centre (RIP) as tickets for the afternoon sessions were easily obtainable and cost us nothing.
We would invariably end up fucking about and get thrown out
Old Len (Crusher) Ganley had us removed a couple of times

Later on in my adolescent years I got into my snooker and played a few pros (Burden Hann Robertson Stevens Gould) mostly when they were practicing for the masters at the Fairview club.
They would give you a 90 point start and still wipe the floor with you.

I love a bit of snooker, great game, and the level the pro's play at is mental. the average bloke in the street wouldn't be able to pot more than 3 balls in a row. Loved watching the worlds back in the 80's and 90's.

Re: World Snooker Championship
The 1980s heyday of snooker was back when there was four stations to choose from!

Look at what has happened to this boring game from a coverage perspective in the modern age. No one watches it. The BBC persist with showing their three events because it is a cheap schedule filler and gives retirees something to fall asleep to in the daytime.

The only non-terrestrial channel interested in it is Eurosport. Sky and TNT don't care about a boring game that no one watches.

COYI - What exactly are you arguing about, you find it boring and don't like it.. Fair enough.

Others enjoy it.. It's all very weird

Re: World Snooker Championship
Shut up COYI, you said exactly the same about golf not so long ago and no doubt other sports too. Don't like it, fine, but you ain't judge and jury and your opinion counts no more than anyone else's, no matter how convincing you try to be.

Love a bit of snooker. Might go up to Sheffield for a bit of the seniors after the worlds have finished.

BTW I believe it’ll be on TNT sports soon.

Re: World Snooker Championship
It is a frustrating game to play for us mere mortals.
I got up to the stage where I was making 40 plus breaks but couldnt get any higher despite lots of practice and match play
The guy I played with regularly was a slightly better player. and made a couple of half centuries but couldn't improve on that.
A snooker coach he consulted reckoned that once you were making 50s regularly you had cracked it and should be able to push on but not in his case
.
I even asked Kirk Stevens at an exhibition for some tips and he
just told me to take up pool.
He was pretty much off his face at the time though and had lost three out of the six exhibition frames.

I remember when we were yoots we used cut through the car park of the working men's club in Plumstead where Steve Davis used to practice. One night we spotted him so peered through the window, so he came over and closed the curtains, the ginger fucker.

Re: World Snooker Championship
Shank - Yea a couple of old mates of mine were decent players and they could get up in the 40's but not higher. Better to play pool, Kirk was right.

COYI- Fuck off mate, it's a cracking game, most events sell out and tv viewing figures are decent, game going more global now too.

Let's go, Ronnie!

Re: World Snooker Championship
Snooker is an extremely difficult game to play, arguably the hardest game to master, so I have a lot of respect for professionals at the top of their game. Ronnie O'Sullivan for example is a snooker genius. That level of innate ability is just mind-blowing.

But still, I'm not having snooker as a spectator 'sport'. Any game where you have to be silent while the players are competing/ taking their shots (snooker, golf, tennis etc.) are just shit and boring.

Re: World Snooker Championship
I was listening to an interview with Steve Davis and when asked whether just any regular person could be as good as him or another top pro even if they did all the practice in the world, he just flat out said ‘no’. It was just innate natural talent. Not even in a boastful way at all. Just very matter of fact and also very true.

Great end to the Allen Higgins match, with Higgins prevailing 13-12.

Re: World Snooker Championship
Manuel - I was knackered last night but no way I was missing that. Thought Allen had it in bag and then it swung to Higgins. The safety battle as outrageous.

I have never really liked Higgins since he shit on the sport that made him with that betting scandal. I think he should've been banned for life. But last night I did feel an ounce of congratulations for him.
